Bitterblue Moves Ahead on 100-Acre MXU Project

A partnership led by San Antonio developer Bitterblue is moving forward on close to 100 acres it acquired in 2017 on San Antonio’s northeast side. The developer, co-owned by former University of Texas System chairman Gene Powell, is planning multifamily housing, as well as commercial and retail space on the land, which is at Wurzbach Parkway and Interstate 35.

The city Zoning Commission recently approved a change to 25 of the 97 acres the partnership owns, to allow for entertainment, sports and tourism purposes. At this time, it’s not certain how many residential units or commercial space the development will have.

The acreage is on part of the defunct Longhorn Quarry, across from the Toyota Field soccer venue and Morgan’s Wonderland. It is also near the Upton at Longhorn Quarry apartment complex.
