BISD to Continue Central High School Presence

The Beaumont Independent School District (BISD) had to close Central Medical Magnet School in September 2017, due to damage received from Tropical Storm Harvey. The school district, however, indicated it would keep the high school’s gym, which is detached from the main building at 88 Jaguar Dr., open for district and community events. The district, however, hasn’t determined what it will do with the main building, which would cost an estimated $19 million to repair and renovate.

The school’s 1,400 students will be combined with the Ozen High School student body when Beaumont United High School opens in August 2018. In the meantime, a 16-building modular brick building is going up at the Ozen campus, located at 3443 Fannett Rd. The district opted to consolidate the student bodies at Ozen after abortive attempts to control leaks in Central’s main building, which is almost 90 years old.
