Bisbee’s Copper Queen Up for Sale
It’s been around since Arizona became a state, and now the famous Copper Queen Hotel in Bisbee is hitting the market. Built in 1902, the iconic hotel survived the 1908 fire and the closing of the copper mine in 1974. It was constructed by the owners of the Copper Queen Mine, the Phelps Dodge company, to host dignitaries and investors, which continues to this day. It’s the oldest continually operated hotel in Arizona. In its heyday, it hosted John Wayne and Teddy Roosevelt and was thought to have ghosts running through the halls.
After major renovations over the past five years, the owners are asking for $12.5 million for the 48-room hotel. A restaurant operator is also being sought for the hotel’s 5,144-square-foot restaurant and bar.
As the city in the Mule Mountains grew to over 25,000 residents by 1910, the Copper Queen Hotel was known at the time as one of the finest hotels in the state.
