Biotech Firm Lonza Wants More Pearland Space

International biotech company Lonza will be adding 150,000 square feet to its already under-construction 100,000-square-foot facility on Kirby Drive in Pearland, TX. Lonza Houston Inc., operated by Swiss company Lonza Group Ltd., had begun construction on the initial phase of its clinical manufacturing and R&D facility. The second phase, on which construction will begin immediately, will house offices, laboratories and manufacturing space.

The expansion is because of an agreement between Lonza Houston and Bluebird Bio Inc., headquartered in Cambridge, MA. Lonza will be manufacturing Bluebird’s Lenti-D and LentiGlobin products. Lonza will initially employ 100 to staff the facility, when it opens next year. The company will be hiring scientists, engineers and biotech professionals over the next 10 years.
