Biotech Comes Downtown
By the end of 2017, NYU Langone Medical Center and BioLabs will open a large-scale biotech incubator at 180 Varick St.
BioLabs@NYULangone will fill 50,000 square feet of fully-equipped laboratory and office space. The tech incubator will be home to up to 35 new startup companies.
“We believe the center will become the long-sought foundation of a larger biotech corridor in New York City,” said Dr. Johannes Fruehauf, president of BioLabs, a leader in the management of shared laboratory centers nationwide.
BioLabs@NYULangone will start with $5 million in funding from NYU Langone, $5 million from the New York City Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC) as part of its LifeSci NYC Initiative, and $2 million from Empire State Development.
