BioMed Realty Secures Approvals for 16-Story MXU Project in Kendall Square
BioMed Realty has secured approvals from the Cambridge City Council to develop a modern mixed-use project in Cambridge’s Kendall Square. The 16-story building will house significant lab space, as well as dedicated indoor and outdoor public/cultural space.
The building will include a $40 million arts space and an additional $15 million public space and activity area. BioMed acquired the development site for $50.5 million in 2018 from tech philanthropist Glenn KnicKrehm. KnicKrehm had long promised to build a grand concert hall at the site. Current plans for the site call for a 250-foot, three-tiered lab tower with 40,000 square feet of public arts and culture space at its base.
Construction is expected to begin in March 2022 with an estimated completion date of 2024.
