BioMed Realty Inks 479K-SF Biopharma Deal in S. San Francisco
San Diego-based BioMed Realty signed a 479,000-square-foot lease with AbbVie at Gateway of Pacific in South San Francisco. The Chicago-based global biopharmaceutical company is taking space in the initial phase of the development, which consists of 500,000 square feet of office and laboratory space and a 50,000-square-foot amenity center.
Work on BioMed’s fully-integrated 1.3-million-square-foot “Science in a Park” campus on Gateway Boulevard commenced last year. Once complete, it will feature dedicated outdoor environments, punctuated by Gateway Central Park in the middle of the campus, which includes:
– Indoor and outdoor collaboration hubs
– Diverse sports and recreation venues
– Outdoor dining plaza
– Fire pits and lounge
– BBQ and picnic areas
– Food truck docks
– Zen garden
AbbVie works in four primary therapeutic areas: immunology, oncology, virology and neuroscience. The company has 30,000 employees, including more than 8,000 in R&D roles, and generated revenue of $28.2 billion in 2017. It operates eight R&D centers, including one in South San Francisco, another in Redwood City, CA and one in Sunnyvale, CA.
