Big Rivers Construction Underway, At Last

Construction is finally underway on Big Rivers water park, one of the first phases of a 632-acre entertainment venue in New Caney, TX. The 150-acre water park at Highways 59 and 242 just north of Kingwood, TX, is scheduled for opening by Memorial Day 2018.

Developer Grand Texas ran into setbacks and delays on the project, including loss of initial funding, construction delays and the oil and gas downturn. However, according to Grand Texas’ Monty Galland, the project is on track, as will be the remaining entertainment venue, which will take two years to complete, at a cost of approximately $2 billion.

Big Rivers’ attractions will include multiple slides, raft rides, a wave pool, splash pad and lazy river. Grand Texas is developing the water park with its adjacent Gator Bayou Adventure Park.
