BHP Billiton to Put 273K SF on Sublease Market

Less than a year after the BHP Billiton office tower was completed, the Australian energy company announced it would list 273,123 square feet of space from the 600,000-square-building in Houston’s Galleria/Uptown submarket. Morgan Relyea Colt, with Cushman & Wakefield, is marketing the sublease space at 1500 Post Oak Blvd.

The move comes months after BP PLC signed an agreement to acquire BHP’s U.S. shale assets in a deal valued at $10.5 billion. That deal is anticipated to close at the end of October 2018. “Following the shale exit, significant portions of the 1500 building will become underutilized,” a BHP spokesperson told the Houston Business Journal.

When BHP moved into 1500 Post Oak in 2017, the company, in turn, vacated 371,447 square feet at 1360 Post Oak Blvd., adding that space to the sublease market. Much of the space has been taken since that time.
