Bexar County building mixed-use project in Converse

Bexar County Developing Mixed-Use Project in Converse

Bexar County is getting into the development business. It’s developing Santé 51, a mixed-use project at Rocket Ln. and Loop 1604. Plans call for the 51-acre development to have county offices, retail, restaurants, medical offices, two hotels, and green space. The county purchased the land just outside of Randolph Air Force Base in 2015 for $3.4 million. Byrne Construction will build the first phase of the $14.7 million project.

Area County Commissioner Tommy Calvert has high hopes for the project, “We’re not going to build a typical strip mall. This will be a destination, much like La Cantera or the Pearl. Santé 51 will be a destination.”

There will also be meetings with leaders in Converse — the suburban city where the land is located — to work out a potential incentive package to move the development along.
