Better Buses Restart Plan Extends to South Bronx

The de Blasio administration is extending its Better Buses Restart plan to the South Bronx, including 2.7 miles of offset bus lanes along the 149th Street corridor from Southern Boulevard to River Avenue. Representing the fourth bus priority project completed since Mayor Bill de Blasio announced the program in June, the improvements are intended to benefit 55,000 daily passengers along the corridor.

“These needed transit improvements will impact tens of thousands in the South Bronx and make it easier for New Yorkers to get to work or school while reducing congestion,” said Deputy Mayor Laura Anglin. “As we continue to recover from this terrible pandemic we will rebuild this city through some of the hard lessons we learned – and a key part of that includes expanding safe and reliable public transit options.”

Among with the bus lanes, the improvements include Transit Signal Priority technology and bus-lane cameras, both now active.
