Bernards Completes $15M Riverside Project
Los Angeles-based Bernards completed construction of a new $15-million, Riverside City College Student Services and Administration Building, funded by Measure C.
Designed by HMC Architects, the two-story, 40,000-square-foot, steel-frame structure is Mission Revival-style, with a plaster exterior and clay tile roof. It provides a “one-stop-shop” for student services including a welcome center, veterans resource center, testing rooms, 100-seat assembly/lecture hall and a counseling resource center.
Bernards’ Rick Fochtman, LEED AP, says they employed team-based Pull Planning, a Lean Construction method, that reinforces the work-releasing-work concept and collaborative partnering between trades. “Using this method, we were able to improve communication, reinforce accountability and speed up the construction process, enabling our team to complete dry-in during October 2015, ahead of anticipated heavy El Niño rains.”
