Berkeley Unveils City’s Largest Affordable Housing Development
BRIDGE Housing and Berkeley Food & Housing Project (BHFP) have announced the opening of Berkeley Way Apartments and the Hope Center, a joint development made possible by a coalition of nonprofit and financial partners as well as voter-approved measures in Berkeley, CA.
Located in downtown Berkeley, the community includes two side-by-side developments: BRIDGE’s Berkeley Way Apartments with 89 affordable homes and services for low- and very low- income families, and BFHP’s Hope Center, with 53 permanent supportive housing apartments, a 32-bed homeless shelter, 12 beds for homeless veterans, a community kitchen and services for mental health, substance abuse and job training.
“This is truly a historic moment,” said BFHP CEO Calleene Egan. “We hope this is the first of many developments throughout the Bay Area, offering homes with wraparound support to ensure every one of our neighbors can access and sustain a safe, comfortable and permanent home.”
The contractor for the project is Nibbi Brothers and the architect is Leddy Maytum Stacy.
