Bend Retirement Living Operator Adds COVID-19 Test for Residents, Employees

Bend, OR-based Sunshine Retirement Living plans to begin testing residents and employees who are exhibiting symptoms or who may have been exposed to COVID-19. The family-owned company, which operates 32 communities across 16 states, is making the move because it says the COVID-19 pandemic continues to disproportionately impact seniors across the country. The test will also be given to all new residents before they move into any of the company’s communities.

Sunshine Retirement Living’s Luis Serrano says, “the tests are a critical factor to sustaining the company’s ongoing, stringent and proactive infection prevention and mitigation protocols.”

The company chose Vikor Scientific’s Respira-ID testing solution because of the lab’s superior reputation, expeditious testing process, high throughput capacity, and FDA approval. Vikor Scientific will provide in-depth virtual training to the community nursing staffs, who will administer the tests and oversee the shipment of samples back to Vikor Scientific for analysis within 24 hours.
