Battery Business Picks Taylor for $40M Facility
Dead batteries don’t always end up in the landfill. A Canadian company that repurposes batteries from electric vehicles is planning to open a facility in Taylor in 2026.
Moment Energy Inc. nabbed a $20 million grant from the U.S. Department of Energy to help open a $40 million, 200,000-square-foot operation in Taylor, about 35 miles northeast of Austin. Despite not securing a location, the project will start in the first quarter of next year. Its aim is to open in 2026 with 100,000 square feet, and the plan is to ramp up to 200,000 square feet within three to five years.
The Taylor project would create 50 construction jobs and up to 200 permanent jobs at full buildout, with 75% manufacturing technicians and production workers and 25% positions such as engineering, business development and supply chain. Once fully operational, the facility will produce an annual output of 1 gigawatt-hour.
