BART Buying Oakland Building for HQ

BART’s Board approved relocating its headquarters to 2150 Webster St. in Oakland in 2021. The transit agency is planning to acquire Lane Partners’ recently-renovated 244,000-square-foot building for $142 million.

In addition to closing costs, $85 million in interior construction is planned that would be financed by a 25-year sales tax bond. BART expects to save at least $210 million in public funds over the 25-year period by purchasing the 10-story building. The lease at its current HQ, 300 Lakeside Dr. in Oakland, expires in July 2021 and the cost of leasing the space is set to increase by 60%.

BART Board President Bevan Dufty says, “The 2150 Webster building will keep our headquarters in Oakland, still be near 19th St. BART Station, but will have the advantage of a ground-floor board room that is more publicly accessible. It will also spur BART administrative staff to downsize their footprint and become more productive through modern, collaborative work practices.”

Connect Direct-to-Consumer is just around the corner at San Jose’s Santana Row. Get more information and register for the September 26th event on this link.
