BART Board Approves $690M West Oakland TOD MXU
China Harbour Engineering Co. and Strategic Urban Development Alliance LLC received an approval from the BART Board of Directors to move forward with the 762-unit mixed-use Mandela Station development in West Oakland. The $690-million project will feature 50,000 square feet of retail space and 300,000 square feet of office space across three buildings.
The 5.5-acre parking lot site at Seventh Street and Mandela Parkway is owned by the transit agency and is a block away from the West Oakland BART Station. The developers envision breaking ground in early 2022. Roughly 31% of the units (240) at Mandela Station will be offered at affordable rates.
The project’s lead architect is JRDV Architects, with Hensel Phelps Construction serving as the general contractor. The city of Oakland had approved the project in 2019.
