Barnes & Noble Plans Return to Bellevue

Barnes & Noble has filed plans with the city to open a store at Bellevue Square, two years after closing its longtime downtown store, reported the Puget Sound Business Journal.

Barnes & Noble is looking to occupy a vacant space that was formerly a Z Gallerie store that closed in 2019. The retail bookstore had operated a location previously in downtown Bellevue, which shuttered in 2022. Barnes & Noble is also planning another opening for a store a 25,000-square-foot store this fall in Issaquah at 775 NW Gilman Blvd.

The New York City-based retailer has been increasing its brick-and-mortar presence store count, looking to fill vacant spaces left behind by other retailers such as Bed, Bath & Beyond. The company’s CEO, James Daunt, has said that he aims to open 50 new stores in 2024, and the company has already opened 23 new locations this year.
