Balyasny Expands NYC Office to 164K SF at GM Building

Balyasny Asset Management has expanded its New York City office footprint with one of the largest lease signings in Midtown Manhattan during the third quarter, the New York Business Journal reported. The Chicago-based investment management firm signed a 163,803-square-foot renewal and expansion at BXP’s The General Motors Building at 767 Fifth Ave., according to CBRE’s third-quarter Midtown Office Figures report.

Balyasny in 2017 occupied 64,000 square feet at the GM Building. The company now leases space across five floors of the building, according to an Oct. 15 SEC filing from the firm.

Balyasny’s renewal and expansion occurs as the firm has announced plans for a $200-million hiring spree, according to Bloomberg. The company has 17 other offices including locations in Boston, San Francisco, Hong Kong, Tokyo and Toronto.

Balyasny’s lease signing was the fourth biggest office deal in Midtown Manhattan during Q3, behind Ares Capital Corp., Willkie Farr & Gallagher LLP and Christie’s Inc., according to CBRE’s report.
