Baker Names 17-Member Board to Advise on Reopening
Even as he extended the commonwealth’s essential services emergency order and other restrictions to May 18, Massachusetts Gov. Charlie Baker on Tuesday took a step toward reopening the Bay State’s economy. The governor announced the formation of a 17-member Reopening Advisory Board.
The board, which brings public and private-sector leaders together, is charged with advising the Baker-Polito administration on strategies to reopen the economy in phases based on health and safety metrics. It will meet with key stakeholders and solicit input from a variety of constituencies over the next three weeks to develop a report by May 18.
The report will include workplace safety standards, industry frameworks and customer protocols and guidelines, including enforcement mechanisms and coordination with municipal leaders.
Although the report is due in three weeks, the administration reiterated that public health data and guidance from healthcare experts will dictate the timeline of the re-opening process.
