Baker Imposes 2-Week Shutdown of Non-Essential Businesses
Massachusetts Gov. Charlie Baker has ordered a statewide workplace shutdown for all businesses and organizations that don’t provide “COVID-19 Essential Services.” The shutdown is effective noon Tuesday and continues until April 7.
Food and grocery stores—including restaurants that provide take-out or delivery—healthcare facilities and transportation hubs all are considered essential during the state of emergency. A complete roster of facilities and organizations that can continue maintaining a physical presence is available here.
Baker also imposed a stay-at-home advisory, although for health reasons the administration has ruled out home confinement. Gatherings in confined or indoor spaces are now limited to no more than 10 people, down from a 25-person limit in a previous executive order.
“We’re asking everyone to use their common sense, think about the impact this virus is having on the sick and elderly, and to limit their interactions with other people,” Baker said.
