Baker: COVID-19 Data Moving in the Right Direction
Gov. Charlie Baker on Tuesday cited recent declines in the numbers of positive coronavirus tests and of hospitalized patients as signs that Massachusetts was moving in the right direction. Nonetheless, he said, “We’re still very much in the fight against the virus,” and emphasized that “no one thinks you need less than 14 days” of positive data before the commonwealth can take steps toward reopening.
Baker made this assessment in the context of his daily COVID-19 briefing, the time at the Fall River facilities of Merrow Manufacturing, a technical sewn-product producer that has enlisted in the commonwealth’s Manufacturing Emergency Response Team (M-ERT) program.
According to Merrow, the M-ERT partnership has enabled the company to scale its operations to become the largest manufacturer of USA-sourced reusable and disposable medical isolation gowns in the country.
“Companies like Merrow have been one of M-ERT’s biggest success stories,” Baker said.
