Back to the Drawing Board for 38-Acre Nederland MXU

A proposed mixed-use development for 38 acres in Nederland, TX is back on the drawing board. Jefferson County commissioners voted to terminate all written leases between the county and developer GLOW Investment Group for the project, dubbed The Landing. The commissioners also approved withdrawal from an interlocal agreement with the city of Nederland and the Nederland Economic Development Corp. for infrastructure improvements on the acreage, adjacent to Jack Brooks Regional Airport on US 69 and Jerry Ware Drive.

When the leases were signed in 2017, plans included retail and restaurants, a hotel, event center and office complex. However, developers have been awaiting Texas Department of Transportation approval for road projects. “No one is going to put their own private funding into development if there’s not a road,” the EDC’s Kay DeCuir told the commissioners. DeCuir will send the county an agenda item for a future meeting to re-enter an agreement with GLOW.
