Away Makes Travel Plans for SoHo Relocation
Direct-to-consumer travel brand Away has travel plans itself, taking 56,000 square feet at 82 Mercer St. in SoHo, and relocating from 419 Lafayette St. Launched in 2016 in an 1,100-square-foot space on Mulberry Street, the company has agreed to create 249 jobs over the next five years, and will receive $4 million in state tax incentives to do so.
“Away’s commitment and investment in New York is proof positive of the growth opportunities this state has to offer,” said Gov. Andrew Cuomo.
Along with expanding its product line to meet the demand of its customers, Away has also launched an editorial arm that includes a digital and print magazine and a podcast. CEO Steph Korey said the move to a larger space represents “a significant step,” adding that “we’re humbled by the support of New York as we continue to grow in a city that’s as global as our customers.”
