AvalonBay’s Harrison MXU Nears Final Approval

A mixed-use project in downtown Harrison, NY that AvalonBay Communities has pursued for years received planning approvals this past week. The town board still needs to sign off on the residential and commercial development, which would be built adjacent to Harrison’s Metro-North train station.

AvalonBay entered a joint development deal with the Metropolitan Transportation Authority in 2014, two years after acquiring land in Harrison. The REIT plans to build 143 apartment units across three buildings. There will also be 27,000 square feet of ground-floor commercial space, along with newly added commuter parking.

The town of Harrison voted in December 2016 to rezone the area, and establish a transit-oriented development district. “This project will greatly impact both the downtown area of Harrison and the future of Harrison,” Councilman Stephen Maltifano said last week.
