AvalonBay, Bridge Housing Selected for $600M Development

Arlington, VA-based AvalonBay Communities and BRIDGE Housing were selected by the City of San Francisco to develop a $600-million housing project near Balboa Park BART station. The Balboa Reservoir site is owned by the city,and is envisioned for up to 1,100 units of apartments and for-sale residences.
Located at Ocean and Phelan Avenues in San Francisco, the transformation of a 17.7-acre parking lot is the first to be considered under the city’s Public Land for Housing Program. The proposed project will include 50% affordable workforce units, 4.2 acres of open space, a shared public garage, a childcare center, and as many as 200 additional apartments for San Francisco educators.
The initial phase of construction is anticipated to commence as early as January 2021, with leasing and sales starting in mid 2023. Other members of the project team include Mission Housing, Pacific Union Development Company and Habitat for Humanity.
