Autonomous Vehicle Startup Leases 210K SF with Hines

Amazon-owned self-driving vehicle startup Zoox. Inc. is establishing a presence in Hayward, according to the San Francisco Business Times. The Foster City-based company, acquired by Amazon for $1.3 billion in 2020, has leased more than 219,000 square feet at 25810 Clawiter Rd. at the Hayward Exchange @ 92, a 620,000-square-foot industrial campus being built out by Hines.

There, Zoox plans to launch a large-scale manufacturing facility for its autonomous vehicles, according to a source with knowledge of the startup’s plans who was not authorized to speak about them publicly.

The startup’s presence in Hayward could be a boon for the city, which has been actively working to attract companies in what it calls the “advanced industries sector,” chief economic development officer Paul Nguyen told the Business Times last year. Among Hayward Exchange’s other tenants is Amazon Web Services, which pre-leased 275,000 square feet for a data center in 2022.
