Australian Developer Plans Midtown Houston Apartments

Caydon Property Group of Melbourne, Australia has announced it will launch construction on The Midtown, a 380-unit apartment property in the under-construction Midtown Superblock. The developer recently opened its first U.S. office in Houston, and plans to break ground in January 2017.

The developer is partnering with Houston-based Ziegler Cooper Architect to design the project. Media sources reported that Joe Russo, Caydons principal, purchased two city blocks in Midtown for $8 million to develop apartments. He indicated he was attracted to Houston because of its lack of zoning and “straightforward development process.”

In addition to the Midtown, Caydon will be developing additional apartments, shops and a piazza on an adjacent site.
