Austin Sixth in Tech Talent
Austin moved up to No. 6 on CBRE’s annual Tech Talent Scorecard, effectively outranking Raleigh-Durham and Atlanta (last year in 6th and 7th place, respectively) on the way. Texas’ capital city comes in behind the San Francisco Bay Area, Seattle, Washington D.C., Toronto and New York City. The scorecard is created through use of 13 metrics, which include tech talent supply, growth, concentration, cost, education, projected job growth and office and apartment rent cost growth.
The CBRE 2018 report noted that Austin ranked No. 7 among top markets for educational attainment, and that the labor pool grew 20% during the past five years. The tech talent labor pool comprises 7% of the metro’s total employment, according to CBRE researchers.
