Austin Releases Guidelines for Reopening Music Venues

The City of Austin and the Austin cohort of the Reopening Every Venue Safely campaign have released best practices to help music venues reopen safely. Large-scale events in the city that is known as the Live Music Capital have been shut down since March 6, when the annual SXSW festival was canceled.

“We partnered with local music industry colleagues and got input from the city to create best practices for when music venues can reopen,” said Don Pitts with Music Cities Together. “We expect this document to evolve as the situation changes with COVID-19.”

The newly issued guide doesn’t advocate reopening venues at this time. Instead, it’s intended as “the first step in a longer process,” according to a release.

The city is also developing event reopening guidelines for the broader event and venue industry in partnership with Austin Public Health, Austin Convention Center, Austin Center for Events and others.
