Austin Ranks as Most Expensive Housing Market in Texas

During the first half of 2017, the Austin area ended up with a large share of houses priced at $300,000 and above, compared to Dallas-Fort Worth, Houston and San Antonio. New numbers from the Texas Board of Realtors note that the Austin area even had more homes priced at $1 million or above during the same period. Finally, TAR’s report also pointed out that the typical monthly rent for an Austin apartment topped the list of the four Texas metros, at $1,139.

Austin Board of Realtors President Brandy Guthrie voiced her concerns over the relatively high housing prices, pointing out that without lower-cost housing solutions being built throughout the metro, “our region’s housing affordability crisis will only continue to worsen.”
