$30M Construction management contract awarded for Austin Convention Center

Austin OK’s Convention Center Renovation Agreement

Austin City Council approved a $30 million contract with Project Control to oversee the planning and construction process of the $1.6 billion redevelopment of the Austin Convention Center set to break ground in 2025.

The firm will oversee project management. The selection follows the City Council’s approval of a $1.2 billion deal with JE Dunn Construction Co. and Turner Construction Co. for pre-construction and construction services.

The site’s redevelopment, a single phase of construction set to be completed by early 2029, will be paid by the city’s hotel occupancy tax and the convention center’s own revenue. It will nearly double the existing convention center’s size.

Much of the new convention center will be built underground to increase capacity on the existing footprint. Three separate towers are set to rise above the underground core of the new convention center. The tallest of the new buildings is set to rise to about 30 stories or about 320 feet.
