Austin ISD Approves $36M Sale to Local Developer

The Austin Independent School District (Austin ISD) will sell the Carruth Administration Center at 1111 W. Sixth St. to Schlosser Development Co. for $36.5 million. The building holds the ISD’s administrative office. Plans are to relocate to the Southfield Office Building, located at Interstate 35 and Ben White Blvd. The school district will spend $28.4 million on renovating that property.

The district also agreed to sell other properties, including a former school in Hyde Park. Alamo Drafthouse Cinema LLC, which paid $10.6 million for the Baker Center at 3908 Avenue B, wants to turn it into a new home office. Developer David Kahn, who offered $12 million for Baker, filed a lawsuit against the district, however.

The Austin ISD announced in October 2016 that it would be putting 10 of its properties up for sale, lease, or other arrangement. The organization sold land in June 2017 to RSI Communities.
