Austin is No. 1 – in Telecommuting
Austin is more than the capital of Texas. It’s also the U.S. capital of telecommuting, at least, according to a study by the Brookings Institution. In a 50-city study, Brookings found out that Austin had the largest share of telecommuters in the United States.
An analysis of U.S. Census Bureau Data indicated that the share of telecommunications workers in Austin increased from 4.6% in 2007 to 8.2% in 2016, the highest share among the 50 largest cities studied. That percentage breaks out to approximately 44,485 workers telecommuting in Austin, up from 18,707. The Census Bureau data came courtesy of the American Community Survey.
