Austin Interested in School District Assets
The Austin City Council authorized spending up to $2.88 million to acquire school district property for development of affordable housing or other uses. The joint effort involves the city, Austin Independent School District and Travis County.
There are 10 school district land parcels being eyed that are spread across the city, including the CBD as well as the east side. Among the prime assets are the school district’s HQ on W. Sixth St., and a former opera house on E. Ninth St.
The school district said that it would favor bids with “civic-minded purposes” for proposed development. Bidding closed Dec. 14th.
