Austin Inks Wind Deal with Iberdrola
Iberdrola’s U.S. subsidiary AVANGRID Renewables, and Austin Energy, which provides power to the city of Austin, inked a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA). Iberdrola will own and operate an as-yet-to-be-built wind farm that will supply a 200-megawatt capacity, which will generate electricity that will, in turn, be supplied to Austin for the next 15 years.
Iberdrola will select the windfarm location in Texas, and it will be built between 2018 and 2019 at an almost $300 million cost. Iberdrola is no stranger to developing wind farms or brokering PPAs, especially with large corporations. Amazon’s U.S. East wind farm in North Carolina and the Montague wind farm, which supplies power to Apple Inc., are two such examples of Iberdrola’s efforts.
