Amherst building modular home factory in Cuero

Austin Group Spending $12M on New Prefab Housing Factory

The Amherst Group is based in Austin, but plans to builds its first modular housing factory about 60 miles south, in Cuero. They’re calling the new product “StudioBuilt” and hope to eventually pump out 600 homes a year from the new $12 million factory.

Amherst purchased a closed textile factory in Cuero, Texas in 2021 to launch its first StudioBuilt manufacturing facility. Revitalizing this facility will, at full capacity, create more than 250 manufacturing jobs and produce hundreds of new, high-quality homes each year.

Amherst’s StudioBuilt homes are prefabricated homes that are constructed in a factory and then installed on a permanent foundation on site. This off-site construction process enables the homes to be completed 50% faster than traditional onsite homebuilding, provides better quality controls during the construction process, and is a more sustainable housing product. Amherst says these homes offer similar quality, resiliency, code compliance, and amenities of a traditional stick-built home.
