Blue Starlite Drive-in moves to N. Austin digs

Austin Drive-in Finds Out There’s Life After Covid

While we heard about many businesses being shuttered due to the crippling effects of the Covid lockdown, one Austin business thrived. The Blue Starlite Urban Drive-in’s business increased tenfold during the pandemic. While it’s dipped a bit since Covid’s peak, the iconic local business is still a going concern and is moving to bigger digs. Blue Starlite secured a new home in North Austin four times larger than its previous Mueller location that closed last month.

The Austin Business Journal reports the owners of the iconic local business signed a two-year lease at 500 VFW Road, a 10-acre site northeast of Braker Lane off Interstate 35. The new location will allow the theater room to grow from three screens to five by the end of the year. It will also double the potential capacity of the drive-in per screen, which could allow up to 40 vehicles per showing.
