Austin-Based Chuy’s Sold for $605M

Chuy’s has been bought by Darden Restaurants in an all-cash transaction with an enterprise value of approximately $605 million. Darden will absorb all 7,400 Chuy’s employees. The iconic Austin-based chain has been expanding its reach since opening its original location on Barton Springs Road in 1982. The homegrown chain opened a restaurant in the Mueller neighborhood in April.

Chuy’s will complement Darden’s portfolio of brands, which currently includes Olive Garden, LongHorn Steakhouse, Yard House, Ruth’s Chris Steak House, Cheddar’s Scratch Kitchen, The Capital Grille, Seasons 52, Eddie V’s and Bahama Breeze.

Chuy’s owns and operates full-service restaurants serving a distinct menu of Tex-Mex-inspired dishes. Chuy’s has 101 restaurants in 15 states and, in the last twelve months, generated total revenues over $450 million and average annual restaurant volumes of $4.5 million.
