Austin-Area Surf Park Preparing for First Wave

A surf-and-condominium project is closer to reality just outside Austin. Discovery Land has started moving dirt on the former site of NLand Surf Park, which shut down in 2018.

The city of Austin approved a site plan that includes plans for more than 140 condos, a brewery, cafe, restaurant, clubhouse and more along streets with names like Aloha Lane, Fishpond Lane, Soundwave Trail, Coco Beach Drive and Outer Reef Circle. The project may also include an Xtreme Park, sports courts, a fishing and stand-up paddle boarding lake and a wellness center.

The project will feature a 19-acre reef wave. It will include a 2,220-square-foot surf basin outfitted with high-volume technology and open to surfers of all ages and skill levels. Both projects involve renovating and expanding existing buildings to make way for an approximately 4,400-square-foot restaurant and a 5,700-square-foot brewery.

Michael Hsu Office of Architecture was tapped to design the restaurant and brewery.
