Austin: America’s Biggest Boomtown
Huge population and housing growth. Great median wages. Increase in jobs, decrease in unemployment. All of these factors led the website Magnify Money to rank Austin as America’s biggest boomtown. Dallas-Fort Worth and San Antonio also made the top 10 (being ranked 7th and 9th, respectively). Houston was just outside that list, coming in 11th.
So what, exactly, makes a boomtown? Magnify Money boils it down to a combination of industry growth, more people relocating from other areas and increasing employment opportunities.
Notes the website: “From the promise of gold to the promise of big tech in Northern California; from trading furs to building cars in Detroit; from the prosperity of sipping to the prosperity of hospitality in Charleston, the country is built on boomtowns.”
