Austin-Bergstrom Airport planning major gate improvements

Austin Airport Plans Key Enhancements

A major renovation project recently kicked off at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS). The project focuses on increasing space in the Barbara Jordan Terminal and completing the second phase of the new Outbound Baggage Handling System.

The project will add 75,000 square feet across four levels, encompassing areas such as baggage handling, apron space, concourse capacity, and a new mezzanine level.

This project, partially funded by $15.9 million from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, will open to the traveling public in 2026. Like all projects within the airport, funding does not come from local Austin taxpayer dollars, but from airport cash reserves, current and future airport revenues, future revenue bond proceeds, and Federal Aviation Administration grants.

The West Infill project will new features and amenities to the terminal, including:

  • 6–8 additional security lanes at TSA Checkpoint 3.
  • Completion of the new Outbound Baggage Handling system.
  • Expanded ticketing counters and kiosks.
