AT&T to Convert Dallas HQ into Urban Tech Center
After looking at several options for a new corporate home in North Texas, AT&T Inc. has decided to stay put in Dallas’ CBD. Plans are for the telecom giant to spend millions renovating its current headquarters at Akard and Commerce Streets to create an urban tech center called AT&T Discovery District. Additionally, AT&T said it will add more than 1,300 new employees during the next few years.
The current four-building, two-million-square-foot complex will be renovated into entertainment venues, and will include landscaping and well-lit sidewalks. A construction timeline and costs were not immediately available. Since moving its headquarters to Dallas in 2008, AT&T doubled its employee number, while spending $100 million upgrading its downtown digs.
