Atlanta’s State Farm Arena Earns LEED Gold Certification

Downtown Atlanta’s State Farm Arena, home to the NBA’s Atlanta Hawks, has earned LEED Gold certification from The United States Green Building Council (USGBC).

The arena was certified after a number of recent sustainable initiatives that included a partnership with Rubicon Global to recycle 12,500 seats in 2018, after the arena’s $192 million makeover. The arena and surrounding area became an entirely smoke-free campus; new lighting fixtures were upgraded to LED fixtures, resulting in a 41% lighting power reduction; the installation of more efficient plumbing fixtures, resulting in savings of more than 540,000 gallons of potable water each year; and more than 900 tons of waste was diverted from the landfill, including multiple items salvaged from the facility that were sent to Atlanta’s Lifecycle Building Center to be resold.

State Farm Arena is owned by the Atlanta-Fulton Country Recreation Authority and operated by the Atlanta Hawks Basketball Club.
