Atlanta-Area Solar Panel Providers to Create Over 2,000 Jobs
The days of residential solar being a quaint novelty may be over. Solar panel makers are creating products at an accelerated pace. And nowhere faster than metro Atlanta. In separate announcements, Qcells and Suniva gave notice of factory activity expected to add well over 2,000 jobs to the region.
Qcells’s $2.3 billion factory in Cartersville will soon be ready to pump out panels. The factory will employ around 2,000 workers. Last week, solar cell manufacturer Suniva said it would resume operations at its Norcross plant. It had ceased operations due to bankruptcy but qualified for funding under the Inflation Reduction Act, allowing the company to resume the project. The first phase will create up to 240 jobs.
The Atlanta Business Journal reports solar jobs increased by 25% in Georgia over the five years to 2022. The state had 5,382 solar jobs in 2022, including over 1,300 solar manufacturing jobs.
