Asia Tops Retail Expansion in Global Study

American retailers increased their expansion pace internationally, but when it came to importing foreign retailers, not so much. According to CBRE Group Inc.’s ninth annual “How Global is the Business of Retail?” report, the survey found retailers based in the Americas expanded into foreign countries at a 3.1% pace last year, and operated in an average of 22.3 countries.

When it came to returning the favor, however, it didn’t seem as though the Americas imported retailers at the same pace. Instead, that honor went to Asia.  Of the 20 hottest cities for cross-border retail expansion in 2015, half of them are Asian markets, with Hong Kong ranking as the hottest market overall.
