Arthur Coppola Stepping Down as Macerich CEO

Arthur Coppola plans to retire from his position as Chairman and CEO of the Macerich Company after 42 years of service at the $16-billion Santa Monica-based company and its predecessor. As part of those retirement plans, he will not stand for re-election as a director.

Coppola says, “I am extremely proud of Macerich’s operational and strategic achievements, including consistently being ahead of the curve as retail has transformed.”

Coppola is a founding partner of the original Macerich Group, which he joined in 1976. His retirement as CEO will be effective as of December 31, 2018.

Steven Hash, who has been an independent member of the Board since May 2015 and the Board’s Lead Independent Director since August 2017, has been appointed to the role of Independent Chairman, a non-executive role, effective as of the 2018 Annual Meeting. Macerich’s board commenced a search for Coppola’s successor.
