The Salt River Pima Maricopa Indian Community (SRPMIC) is looking at turning 270 acres of tribal-owned land into a sprawling mixed-use destination in the Phoenix Metro’s East Valley. Much of the site is currently a sand and gravel operation.

On 80 of the 270 acres, the Tribe plans to build a new casino to replace Casino Arizona, which currently occupies the site. Casino Arizona (shown), which opened in 1998, is located north of McKellips Road. 

Most of the western portion of the 270-acre site is anticipated to house moderate density and feature hospitality, street-level retail, office and public space such as parks or playgrounds. 

SRPMIC is open to partnering with interested parties. It will maintain ownership of the land and issue 99-year ground leases, with the potential addition of a joint development agreement. Due to the sovereignty of American tribes, SRPMIC will not need permission from any other governing body.
