Arizona Governor Says State Will Lead Reopening Economy
Government and business leaders across the United States are turning an eye toward a phased reopening from the COVID-19-related shutdowns. The transition to re-start Arizona’s economic engine will be led by the state, and Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey is seeking recommendations to help accelerate a business and economic recovery.
Gov. Ducey outlined the “one step at a time” approach to “reenergize” Arizona’s economy. He said, “Arizona was leading in economic momentum heading into the downturn, and “Arizona will lead on the way out.”
The governor is soliciting recommendations from Arizona business and tourism leaders about the how best to revive the economy “in the coming weeks.” He plans to work with business leaders to prioritize steps to reopen Arizona’s economy gradually.
The first to potentially reopen could be manufacturing and construction industries. Restaurants and nonessential retailers would likely open later and encompass modifications such as reduced seating and plexiglass dividers. Factory floor plans may be redesigned to accommodate social distancing guidelines. Workers may start to return in phases or continue remote work if possible. Other changes to workplaces and businesses may include temperature checks for those entering a space, and the use of masks is likely to continue once things reopen.
Arizona’s executive order, slated to run through the end of the month, could change if needed.
