Arizona Business Leaders Submit Plans to Governor for Reopening Economy

Arizona business and industry leaders are submitting input for consideration, as the state figures out plans to reopen its economy. Governor Doug Ducey requested ideas from companies in advance of the COVID-19 stay-at-home order that expires April 30, so he can decide the next steps.

The Arizona Commerce Authority was assigned the task of gathering the input and coordinating efforts with businesses. Input has been received from the Arizona Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the East Valley Chambers of Commerce, Gilbert Chamber of Commerce, the Arizona Technology Council and additional feedback is coming from Westmarc, the West Valley economic development group.

Ideas so far touch on the link between public health and economic success, the need for guidelines for businesses and communication about how and when they could return to operation, legal liabilities for companies stemming from COVID-19 issues, multiple phases of opening, social distancing and sanitizing/hygiene practices, customized plans to manage capacity and other practices unique to an industry or company, as well as long-term recovery considerations.
